Found Object: A Decorated Sap Bucket

Misty Bleu Farm - Wednesday, November 19, 2014

I found this interesting old decoratively painted sap bucket at the Wilson Homestead.  The interior is painted an oxblood red, the exterior is a vernacular Vermont farm scene - reminiscent of the work of Grandma and Will Moses.

I thought it was a charming scene, with enough rough edges and a patina of time and wear to keep it from looking too precious.  While it is signed, the artist is an unknown.  It was done in the 70's.  No matter to me.  I could not have afforded it if it were painted by an important artist, so lucky me.  I like it just fine nonetheless.  It will make a great catchall for all kinds of things, maybe some kindling wood.

Sally at the Wilson Homestead was sorry to see it go.  She really liked it, too.  I told her she could visit it any time she wanted.
